Holiday Traditions at Heritage Care Home Senior Living

Treasure searches? snowball battles inside? The holidays are the most delightful time of the year at Heritage Care Home Senior Living thanks to new customs.

How Much Does Memory Care Cost?

Holiday customs are unique occasions for celebrating and reuniting with loved ones, from getting up early to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade to staying up late on Christmas Eve preparing cookies for Santa. However, managing the tremendous workload of continuing long-standing holiday customs might become increasingly challenging as we age. It's heartbreaking to pass the baton to the next generation, but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the delight of participating in holiday customs, both old and new, at a senior living facility.

While certain holiday customs, such as eating turkey on Thanksgiving and singing Christmas carols, have stayed consistent throughout the years, many others have changed and occasionally given rise to wholly new customs, such as Secret Santa gift exchanges and bonfire dancing while singing Christmas carols. Although unusual at first, these new Christmas customs may inspire fresh sensations of coziness and joy over the holiday season and quickly become cherished routines you eagerly anticipate each year. Here are four original holiday customs that have been adopted throughout time by residents of some of our Heritage Care Home Senior Living homes.

Heritage Care Home– Gold coin treasure hunt

You know you've hit gold when a new Thanksgiving custom becomes so well-liked that locals want it to happen again at Christmas. In order to provide seniors residing in the senior living facility for Thanksgiving with a pleasant incentive to get outside and be active, the Gold Coin Treasure Hunt was created. The penultimate clue in the treasure hunt leads to a gold coin, which is placed around the picturesque town of palm palms, pools, and mountain vistas.

There are also numerous extra hints using QR codes for residents who passed the "Know Your Phone" technological course. Residents may then take the gold coin to the treasure chest for a present that Cedres makes an effort to personalize for each inhabitant.

Thanksgiving in the desert

While many families gather inside around the dining table for Thanksgiving, the setting is as breathtaking as it gets. The team members have helped transport senior living residents and cooked turkey into the desert a week before Thanksgiving for a meal with a spectacular backdrop: the rugged and beautiful White Tank Mountains. Many residents attended and enjoyed a fantastic feast and amazing views all while seated next to neighbors and team members-turned-family.

Holiday choir concert

But this year the Christmas choir performance will go on thanks to a brilliant scheme to put lights in the courtyard and shift the music outside! The roughly 20-person choir was founded by locals a number of years ago, and it performs year-round, from Broadway show songs to a Fourth of July patriotic program. Regardless of care level or disability, anybody can join the choir. In particular, the holiday concert is a popular local custom that spreads happiness for everyone to hear and leaves locals with warm feelings long after the final note has been played. The concert is something residents really look forward to year after year, and we have a healthy community.

Indoor snowball fight

It turns out that all you need for a "snowball" battle is a bunch of inhabitants who are willing to let free, a lot of paper, and their imaginations. The snowball fight always results in a room full of laughter and nostalgic grins on the cheeks of the inhabitants. All that is required is for the residents to be seated in a circle before the "fight" starts and a bundle of crumpled white paper to resemble snowballs. No hesitation is necessary. The locals may have a great time hurling the paper snowballs at him and everyone else. The snowball battle may only be a quick and easy Christmas activity, but watching his residents' faces light up as they adopt a brand-new holiday tradition makes it memorable.
